Quick Tips For Fish Tank Cleaning

Cleaning a fish tank is one  of those things that has to be done but few people seem to enjoy it. Here are some tips that might make this unpleasant job a little easier or might make it go a little faster and save you some work.

Fish tanks do require a certain amount of maintenance and care if your fish are to remain healthy. So one of the things that needs to be done periodically is cleaning a fish tank. The algae that starts to grow in the tank needs to be removed and the water needs to be changed so your aquarium both looks nice, smells nice, and is a good environment for your fish to live in.

Tips To Lessen Algae Buildup

1) Buy a good quality filter with a charcoal cartridge and keep the cartridges changed often.

2) Keep your tank out of sunlight that may be coming in from a window or skylight. This will do much to keep algae from growing.

3) Try adding Plecostomus fish to your tank. They will eat algae off of rocks and other surfaces where it may start to grow.

4) Change the water in the tank every six to eight weeks. Remove all the rocks and decorations and clean them with a mild bleach solution.

5) When you are changing the water, clean the glass of the tank with an aquarium glass cleaner. Do not use a household type glass cleaner for this job as it can be deadly to fish even in small amounts that are left after cleaning.

Good luck with cleaning your fish tank. I hope these tips make the job go a lot smoother.
